Project Dreamwater (Dreamcast)
A downloadable game
A mysterious ship drops into a maze of underground pools and must fight other ships or be sunk.
This is a game for the Sega Dreamcast. I tried to make the game use the Dreamcast hardware enough that it looks like this could not be done without noticeable downgrades on prior generation consoles.
Features:
- A water surface effect (using mipmaps)
- Water physics
- Projectile physics with the environment
- Positional sound
- Baked vertex lighting
- Fake environment mapping (in a later area)
This game was made for the DreamDisc '25 Game Jam.
This game works on real Dreamcast hardware, and I can also confirm it works in a recent version of the Flycast emulator. The water effect does not work on all emulators.
Music and SFX were made by Jamailmusic.
Ship model was made by TastyTentacles.
This game was created with KallistiOS, GLdc, and LibTremor. More information can be found in the README.

Install instructions
To play the game, download project-dreamwater.zip, which contains the .cdi file. The other file, Project Dreamwater Submission.zip, is the Dream Disc '25 CD submission.
This game is intended to be played on the Sega Dreamcast.
The .cdi file can be burned onto a CD, played with an optical drive emulator, or played with a serial port SD adapter. I have only tested the first method, so please let me know if you have any issues!
It can also be played in an emulator. I have confirmed it works in Flycast v2.5 or newer but other emulators may have missing graphical effects.

Really enjoyed it as well with some added things like an SE edition. I think this could be in the top ten homebrew games, but libtremor has to go that CPU cycle-sucking crap bucket of a codec lol. So many things we have now, even DSP using the ACIA Direct, that you could add more effects for free, tons more, just swapping that junk out. Like nice explosion blasts and trails out of the cannon, and then on the cannonball, it is ace. :) Are you looking into upgrading it and making it more polished i love to help out..
How did you know I was still using libtremor? I meant to replace it but I ran out of time. I wasn't planning on making an upgraded version, got pretty discouraged after it didn't make it on the disc. I definitely plan to replace libtremor in future projects though! Is there a list anywhere covering the current options for DC music playback?
Best water physics on DC (and pretty good looking generally to boot!). Managed to get through it all after I forced myself to have some patience!
Thanks for playing! I spent a lot of time on the water, so I'm glad you liked it.
this reminded me a lot of toy commander, very sick!
Thanks!
